So I recently put Project Thanks Obama up on the local ‘list. Initially I said “I just want a trade, something with four wheels and three pedals, preference given to 3rd gen F-Bodies and Fox Mustangs”. Shortly after I put a cash value as well. So far, I’ve been offered:
A 2000 Nissan Altima
A Harley Sportster 1200
A 2005 Toyota Corolla
A 1971 Ford F100
A 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III
A 2002 Mitsubishi Galant
An RV and tree-grooming
A 1993 BMW 318is
Out of the whole lot (not counting the HD), one had 3 pedals - the BMW. It’s also the only one I entertained enough to go look at. Needs seats, door cards, a clutch, a paint job, a radio, tires, and the valves were loud as
FUUUUUUCK
. I noped right on out.
Then I got an offer last night to trade my happy little pick’m’up for a 1993 Honda Accord. He said it was manual and dented up. I asked for more info. He said he doesn’t know anything else except it has 350,000 miles. He couldn’t even tell me which engine it had, if it had any options. Just that it has dents and a shit-ton of miles.
Now to my surprise, I haven’t been offered any Civics with (insert engine choice here) swaps. Nor have I been offered any of those marijuana cigarettes . But one car out of this whole bunch came close to what I’d asked for.
I’ve responded to about two dozen ads as well. I’ve received one response. One. I’m going to go take a look at it tomorrow. It doesn’t have three pedals but at least it’s intriguing enough. I’m not going to tell you what it is, but it’s about the same age and value as the truck. It puts out an obscenely high number of horsepowers for its age, configuration and brand, which is rather necessary because it’s weighs almost as much as the Dakota. Also I’m not too sure, but it could very well be purple.

Go for the 1971 Lincoln, you know you want it.

I once saw a hilux on Denver CL with an offer to trade for 10lbs of pot.

Went on the track as a passenger in a 318ti with a driver who knew the car very well. Seemed similar to a Miata. Light and nimble but if the turn us going uphill, well, two people in the car didn’t help. I was hoping you were going to report choosing that one.
Kinda shocked you didn’t hear from any Lexus owners. Every ad I post (and I never mention trades) I get at least a few offers looking to trade a Lexus from the early 90's.

I almost said “ok” to the Bimmer. The inability to open the driver door without crawling in from the passenger side, and the fact that the clutch just stopped trying to do anything after the third shift - any throttle and it just gave up - told me I’m kinda getting the shaft here

Good gof. I had someone offer me some “...super-chronic and an ounce of shatter...” for a laptop.

I almost did. One blurry picture. “Needs a driver door” and “sat for years but I just got it started” told me good thing I didn’t.

Right idea, wrong specimen. So it goes.

I don’t remember offering my 2005 Toyota Corolla lol

I almost asked you what you thought of your car until I remembered I really really don’t want to trade my manual transmission funhouse for something so... so...

That 318i sounds like a perfect car for an S52/54 swap and track-day hero makeover.

I put my 91 SE Miata up last week. So far i have been offered a 72 buick electra.

True. But I’m looking for something that will get me to Washington state with minimal work. The Dakota will. That 318 wouldn’t

Maaan I’d take a Miata in a heartbeat. My wife, however, would not let me do so. If I did, then she’d have to have both dogs and both cats in the truck with her when we move to Washington.

I’d leave the top up and put the cats in the back shelf area if it were me.

so you’re getting the 2005 corolla?

Given the types of trades I’ve been offered, I’m almost thinking about it. At least it’s likely to be as reliable as the Dakota.
But no.

trade it and give me the corolla?
![]() 07/24/2017 at 11:55 |

Then what would I have?

peace of mind

Unfortunately peace of mind won’t carry me on a cross-country move :\

F100 tho

I am pretty happy with it. It’s much, much better than my old Crown Vic. It’s a good daily for my 47 mile round trip commute. I’m getting a little bored of it recently but there’s nothing else in my price range that would do its job as well or as reliably.

it will
